Firefox Backup is a built-in feature introduced by Mozilla to let users automatically protect and save their browser data locally or to the cloud without needing third-party tools. Key Features of the Native Backup Tool

Daily Automation: The tool automatically refreshes and saves a backup file every single day on your device.

Comprehensive Data Protection: It bundles your bookmarks, saved passwords, browsing history, and core settings into a single archive.

Password Encryption: You can secure and encrypt your sensitive backup files with a custom password for extra security.

Seamless Migration: A dedicated restoration option appears on the initial setup screen (about:welcome) during fresh browser installations or on new computers. Platform Availability

Windows: Fully supported out of the box on Windows 10 and Windows 11. Linux: Rolling out natively.

macOS & Mobile: Not natively active yet; macOS is planned for a future update, while mobile devices continue to rely on Firefox Sync. How to Use the Built-in Backup Tool

You can manage your local configurations directly from the settings interface:

Open Firefox and navigate to Settings (or type about:preferences in your address bar). Click on the Sync or General tab. Locate the Backup section and select Manage Backup.

Check the box to “Back up your sensitive data” if you want to apply password encryption. Traditional & Alternative Backup Methods

If you are on an unsupported operating system, prefer manual control, or are looking into legacy software, you have a few alternatives:

The Manual Profile Method: You can completely back up your profile by copying your raw data folder. Close Firefox, navigate to %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles</code> on Windows (or use about:profiles in your URL bar), and copy your active .default folder to an external drive.

Firefox Sync: If you prefer cloud-based syncing across all platforms instead of a standalone file backup, logging into a Mozilla Account continuously mirrors your bookmarks, history, open tabs, and logins to other devices.

Legacy Tools: In the past, third-party standalone utilities like MozBackup or extension tools like FEBE were widely popular. However, these are highly outdated and no longer recommended for modern versions of Firefox.

If you want to move your setup, let me know your operating system and if you prefer keeping your data locally on a USB or synced via the cloud. MozBackup - Backup tool for Firefox and Thunderbird
